The region's main attraction is the Itatiaia National
Park, with its rich
collection of flora and fauna as well as the Pico das Agulhas Negras, one
of the highest peaks in Brazil, which is 2787 meters high. The landscape
is alpine with low temperatures and occasional snow-storms on top of the
mountains in winter. The tourist attractions of the region include
Engenheiro Passos, Visconde de Mauá and Penedo where nature conservation
has been in evidence longer than in any other part of the state. The
chalets and cottages live together in harmony with the exuberant forest
and visitors can discover the magic of nature, including numerous
waterfalls, such as the Véu de Noiva on the Maromba ravine with a
waterfall that stretches for thirty meters.
